College & Career Advising

The College & Career Adviser is on campus to provide academic, career, and college advising. Some questions the guidance counselor can help answer and direct you on include:

  • What classes should I take and when?
  • What should I do if I’m behind in credits for graduation?
  • What are possible career options that allows me to use the gifts God has given me?
  • How can I develop my gifts and get real-life career experience while I’m still in high school?
  • When should I take my SAT test?
  • How can I decide what colleges are a good fit for me?

 

Scholarship Opportunities

West Valley Hospital Foundation

West Valley Hospital Foundation scholarship applications for student in medical-related fields of study are available beginning February 1, 2017.  Applicants must be a resident of Polk County or an employee or family member of an employee at West Valley Hospital, and have applied to a college in their field of healthcare study before applying to this scholarship.  To access the scholarship application packet, visit www.salemhealth.org/scholarships and click on the “West Valley Hospital Foundation” link. 

Chemeketa Community College

Chemeketa Community College Foundation Scholarships 2017-2018

Scholarships awarded will be for academic year 2017-2018 (fall, winter, and spring terms)

Application period: February 1 to March 31, 2017

Important information about applying for Foundation scholarships:

  • Current high school seniors can apply for Foundation scholarships, but you must first apply for admission to Chemeketa. The application can be found at chemeketa.edu.
  • Foundation scholarships are open to all students. This includes students without a social security number.
  • The Foundation has more than 100 scholarship funds. Students only need to fill out one application and will automatically be sorted into the scholarships they qualify for.
  • This is the ONLY opportunity to apply for Chemeketa scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year.
  • If you aren’t sure about your major or program of study at the time of application, indicate your intent and elaborate in the essay section of the application.
  • The Foundation reoffers scholarships throughout the academic year due to declined or canceled awards. Students should check their My Chemeketa email account weekly to avoid missing a scholarship email and acceptance deadline.

Oregon State University

The Balanced Man scholarship is provided by Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity (but you don’t need to be in the fraternity to receive the scholarship).  Applications are online at http://osuspe.chapterspot.com or get an application from Mrs. Hull.  There are $1000 and $500 scholarships available.  The deadline is June 9.

Harrington Family Foundation

Harrington Family Foundation  scholarship – Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship for seniors who demonstrate an aptitude for leadership and plan to attend an in-state college, university or trade school.  This is a 4-year scholarship of $2500/year!  Apply at harringtonfamilyfoundaton.slideroom.com.  Applications due March 31, 2017

Women for Agriculture

The Yamhill County Women for Agriculture $750 Community College Scholarship is available and the application deadline for 2017 is March 10.  If a student is attending community college next year (even if they are part of the Chemeketa Scholar program) and pursuing a career in agriculture, they can apply.  The applicant must provide a completed application form, two letters of recommendation, and high school transcripts. Contact Mrs. Hull for the scholarship application. 

Tuite Law

Tuite Law DUI Accident Scholarship to a student considering law with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.  The due date is May 31http://tuitelaw.com/rockford-illinois-dui-accident-lawyer/#scholarship-application

Automobiles as a hobby or career

Brent Strohmeyer Memorial Foundation Scholarship – for students that are interested in automobiles as a hobby or career. This scholarship requires transcripts, two letters of recommendation and a few short answer questions and is due April 15.

Divorce & Family Law

This scholarship is reserved for high school seniors nationwide who plan on attending a 4-year college/university or a 2-year accredited community college in the Fall of 2017.  This scholarship is open to applicants whose parents have gone through a divorce and plan on pursuing a career in Family Law. https://www.robinsonandhenry.com/denver-divorce-lawyer#scholarship The deadline for this scholarship is May 31, 2017.

Oregon Office of Student Access and Completion

Have you signed up on the OSAC (Oregon Office of Student Access and Completion) website for scholarships?  You really should take advantage of the scholarship clearing house.  Enter all your information one time and you will be made aware of scholarships that fit you.

Elks Legacy Award

Are you the child or grandchild of an Elks member?  If so you can apply for the Elks Legacy Award.

Victims of a personal injury accidents

Were you or a parent or guardian the victim of a personal injury accident?  If so, you are qualified to apply for this $500 scholarship.  This scholarship is open to High School Seniors in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
