Accomplishments

Fundraising began in the late spring of 2001 and today we celebrate all that has been accomplished during these past seven years. In many ways the list of improvements, added facilities, expanded programs, and lives touched for Christ, is more than we expected. The crossing of the bridge and bringing the best from the past to the future has transformed Western into a school that is viewed as one of the top Christ-centered schools in the area.

Your giving has impacted a long list of additions and improvements:

Fundraising:

-         Raised $6,500,000 in gifts and pledges
-         Raised over $100,000 in additional funds for technology improvements
-         Increased annual fund giving
-         Increased endowment donations
-         Increased volunteer involvement
-         Increased auction income
-         Inspired the Building for Excellence house by volunteers

Academic Program:

-         Expanded the middle school to include grade 6
-         Enrollment has grown from 169 to 274 in the last seven years
-         Increased the focus on chapel, student life, and spiritual life
-         Expanded and strengthened the academic program
-         College credit now provided for several classes
-         Expanded the music program including the addition of band
-         Added equipment for the woodshop

Overall we have added eight classrooms and the academic center for an approximate total of 23,000 additional square-feet for the academic program.

Technology for students, faculty, and staff:

-         Networked the library, classrooms, and offices
-         Added 47 new computer workstations in the academic center
-         In the process of developing a technology campus backbone to link buildings
-         Added a new bell and phone system
-         New educational, advancement, accounting, and administrative software

Buildings & Campus:

-         2000:   Added two new middle school classrooms for the 2000-2001 school year
-                     Paved front entrance and parking
-         2001:   Developed a campus master plan
-         2003:   Added a 9,000 square-foot practice facility
-         2004:   Added a classroom to expand grade seven to two sections
-         2005:   Added two classrooms to expand grade six and eight to two sections
-                     Improved office space for faculty, business, and advancement personnel
-                     Added a conference room
-         2006:   Started construction on a new waste management system
-         2007:   Ground-breaking ceremony on May 20 for the academic center
-         2008:   Opened the 8,000 square-foot academic center to students and faculty in April
-                     Added another high school classroom in the administration building
-                     Implemented a campus-wide fire protection pond and system

Student Life & Athletics:

-         Added girls’ soccer and softball
-         Added baseball
-         Added the above sports for middle school and high school
-         Built new fencing on the baseball field including a homerun fence
-         Preparing a new softball field and another soccer field for 2009
-         Improved dorms (added a kitchen, space for weekend students, an apartment for dorm directors, new beds, dressers, mattresses, bookshelves, and new flooring)
-         Expanded the kitchen and upgraded equipment
